Days Fourteen, Fifteen and Sixteen.

"To know what has to be done, then to do it, compromises the whole philosophy of practical life." - Sir William Osler
Week three is off to a great start, I have been juicing quite a bit and I am incorporating a few superfoods that I am currently reading up on. For this post I want to focus on how to eat smart when you're eating out. This week is my boyfriend's birthday so that means I have quite a few birthday dinners to attend and more than likely they will all be at restaurants. Always keep a positive outlook when planning on going to dinner because it is not the end of the world, you just have to keep yourself focused and you'll be fine. Keep reassuring yourself of your ultimate goals while you are waiting to be seated. Once the menu gets placed in front of you, make sure you look for clues on the menu like hearts or stars indicating if the meal is heart healthy or low calories. Once you found the few select items narrow it down to the choice that sounds the most filling with mostly vegetables as the ingredients. Also, most restaurants will modify a meal for you and even if they won't just say your allergic to said ingredient(s) then it should not be a problem. I have done this a few times during this challenge so I could still go out with my friends and family for dinner and still stick with the challenge.

Here are some of the meals I have opted for while going out to restaurants during this challenge.
Taco Bus:

Poblanos Mexican Grill:

As previously posted, Oxford Exchange:

Eating healthy and smart while eating out is solely a personal disciplined choice but I promise you will not regret the switch once you stick to it.

On the other hand here is a picture of my juicer:

I adore it and I am so glad I made the purchase because it has made a huge difference with my cravings. My cravings are basically nonexistent now and if I do get a craving I just pour myself a glass of juice, so simple! My recent juicing recipe is 1 to 2 carrots, a pear, 2 to 3 apples, and a handful of kale leaves. This recipe makes enough juice for one day and the juice is deliciously sweet, great for the sweet tooth cravers out there. I have also played around with many other recipes and found some that I can't stand and others that I can't seem to get enough of. Let me know if you would like to see a post covering some juicing recipes and the benefits; stay healthy and take care everyone.

  1. Very nice juicer. I have a Blendtec blender which makes awesome shakes, smoothies, soups and whatever you want to throw in the darn thing. The past six months I have changed from the traditional dairy protein shakes to a vegan protein with almond milk. I have found it to taste amazing and also mix up better. It's made by a company called Plant Fusion. Have you heard of it and if not what protein do you use if any? Great post by the way, I like the alternatives for going out to eat.

    1. Thank you very much, and I usually stick to just meat and beans as my protein. I have always been so bad at sticking with a specific protein daily, I seem to burn myself out on protein powder I use when I do that. Regardless, when I do use protein powder I typically use 100% Egg Whites Protein powder; just make sure is says 100% egg whites under the ingredients section, and I also use Perfect Fit Protein which is brown rice based protein powder. Those two proteins are great if you are really trying to stick with vegan shakes. I actually have heard of Plant Fusion and I tried their green machine powder mix I believe, I really liked the taste but the mixed seemed pretty chalky in texture so that turned me away, but Perfect Fit is pretty chalky textured too you just have to prepare it a certain way if you want to avoid that consistency.

  2. I applaud the effort at eating healthy while out. I have tried portion control in the past and failed miserably. I found if I eat fish and veggies is my best idea. The whole meat and potatoes is a no-no anymore. I apparently do not possess self-control, albeit that is no surprise. I have a weak soul when it come to food, especially something that I have not had before.

I like your idea with the juice, I had the problem of sucking down quarts before bed and putting on inches. I indulged one too many times, eventually my girlfriend started juicing-blending & mixing. It was fun and the concoctions were astounding but we both realized neither one of us possessed self-control.

    1. Thank you, I too struggle with self control and that is one of the main reasons why I arranged this challenge for myself. I wanted to learn different ways to maintain a healthy diet and a few different recipes, so far I feel like this challenge has really helped me and I certainly feel like it will be easier for me to maintain a strict healthy lifestyle from here on out.

  3. I love that you are sharing your choices while eating out. With the holidays coming up, there will be lots of dinners out on the town, and now I have a little better idea of what to eat while I am out. Thank you!
